In 2026, the jazz trumpeter, bandleader, and composer Miles Davis would have turned 100. His importance as one of jazz’s greatest stylistic innovators cannot be overstated. Tonight’s set list spans several eras of Davis’s catalog—from *Porgy and Bess* to *Bitches Brew*.

The Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK) celebrates Miles Davis with a concert in the Hallen at USF, featuring some of Norway’s leading jazz musicians. Heading the all-star lineup is trumpeter Nils Petter Molvær, one of the elder statesmen of Norwegian jazz, who was early on inspired by Miles Davis’s uniquely distinctive trumpet sound. He is joined by two trumpet players from younger generations: Eivind Lønning and Kristina Fransson. The band leaves no doubt about its musical level, with Anja Lauvdal on keyboards, bassist Ellen Andrea Wang, and Veslemøy Narvesen on drums.

In recent years, KORK has firmly established its position as Norway’s jazz orchestra—a group of 54 musicians who master the combination of symphonic sound with advanced jazz harmonies and rhythms. In addition, during 2025 KORK appointed Miho Hazama as its principal guest conductor, with special responsibility for jazz productions. Hazama is regarded as one of the world’s leading orchestra conductors, and is also an outstanding jazz composer and arranger with a remarkably broad stylistic palette.

The concert is a co-production between Nattjazz and the Bergen International Festival.
