Superband with a new album!

In addition to being Norway’s busiest drummer, Gard Nilssen somehow finds the time to lead a kind of gloriously twisted big band. Born out of Moldejazz, where he was Artist in Residence in 2019, the orchestra played so brilliantly that it simply had to be given a longer life.

With no chordal instruments in the lineup, the band features some of the most brilliant musicians in Europe: three drummers, three double bassists and ten horn players, including an obscene number of saxophonists – most of whom have previously performed at Nattjazz with their own projects.

Think Ornette Coleman, Wayne Shorter, Duke Ellington, Fela Kuti and the Art Ensemble of Chicago. They arrive at the festival with a brand-new album in their bag.

This is going to be intense!
