Brazil's indie prodigy
“‘A touch of Bowie, a touch of peacock — I want to change the representation of the Brazilian popular music artist.’ Everyone wants a piece of Zé Ibarra these days — from Bala Desejo, the band with which he won a Latin Grammy, to the legend Milton Nascimento, who has taken him on multiple tours. The acclaimed singer and multi-instrumentalist made his recorded debut in 2003 with nothing but an acoustic guitar, but has now moved to a full-band sound on the 2025 album *AFIM*. On stage, he blends the sensitivity, melancholy, and storytelling of Brazilian popular music with modern arrangements and visual effects, mixing original songs with personal interpretations of leading voices in contemporary Brazilian music. Brilliantly beautiful pop from a future legend.
