Folk music, party & mischief!
Pumpegris plays through the night with killer tunes, hard-hitting 'slåtter' (traditional fiddle tunes), and honest lyrics, where vocalist Vera Sonne draws on everything from traditional 'kveding' (Norwegian vocal folk style) to rap—essentially whatever captures the driving, danceable pulse of folk music.
The band also draws inspiration from funk, shoegaze, singer-songwriter pop, and hip-hop, charging headlong into all these traditions with real force. In doing so, they bring folk music into something intimate, gritty, and groovy. Norwegian cultural heritage meets today’s youth: slåtter meet rap, fuzz guitar meets hymn-like tones.
The contrast between the vulnerable and the humorous runs throughout both the music and the lyrics. Pumpegris has arrived to spread Norwegian folk music with celebration and a bit of mischief—just the way it originally came to life.
