John Coltrane would have turned 100 in 2026, an anniversary that gives saxophonist Isaiah Collier the opportunity to honor his greatest role model. Collier has distinguished himself both through his own projects and through collaborations with artists such as Chance the Rapper and Wadada Leo Smith III. His third and most recent release with the band The Chosen Few came out in 2024 and received, among other accolades, a five-star review from *DownBeat*, with several critics naming it Album of the Year. The music was recorded at Rudy Van Gelder’s legendary studio on Coltrane’s birthday, using some of the same analog equipment that was used for the original recording session of *A Love Supreme*—an energy he now brings with him to Bergen and Nattjazz.
